Hopscotch Tournament results
Critics are calling the 1st Annual Martin Luther Memorial Hopscotch Tournament Sponsored by the Student Association’s Social Outreach Committee "a success, indeed a smashing one!" In a world of Chaos, Jeff Martin arose victorious, the champion of both hopscotch and arguably 4-Square, as well as the captain of the winning wiffleball team. Not to be overlooked was Joseph Graumann, who finished an honorable 2nd and narrowly lost the Hop-Off. Thanks to all who came and established this event as an annual showcase of the very best that LTSG has to offer!
Summer address
Farewell and Godspeed
This week's Communion service will be taking place Friday, on Graduation Day. However, there will be chapel each day this this week, including Thursday. On Wednesday, there will be a service of Farewell and Godspeed for those who will not be spending the fall semester on campus (except for seniors and their families: there will be a similar service for those folk on Friday). So, if you're going on internship, studying somewhere else next semester, or if there's any other reason we won't see you in September, try to be in chapel on Wednesday. If that's impossible, we'll be praying and thanking God for you anyway!

Power outage today
A power outage is scheduled on campus for today sometime after 8:30am that will result in loss of power to the Library, West House, Singmaster and Schmucker House for up to 4 hours. Internet, cable TV and phone services will be disrupted across the entire campus. IT will start taking down servers at 8am (this includes Blackbaud, Citrix and the SRM Counterpoint Server). Program for Ecumenical Accompaniment in Colombia
Here is a great summer opportunity that would fulfill the Multicultural requirement! The World Student Christian Federation seeks volunteers for the Program for Ecumenical Accompaniment in Colombia from May 10- Aug. 10, as part of the PEAC Pilot Project in San Onofre, Colombia. Volunteers must be over 21 years old and have a working knowledge of Spanish. Volunteers also need endorsement from your faith community. The principal work of the team consists of physical, visible, active, non-violent accompaniment presence in the context of fear, intimidation and violence related to the continuing violation of victims rights and the land restitution process in Colombia. All basic living expenses, job related travel, work costs, and basic health coverage will be covered. Volunteers are encouraged to raise funds and find support for their airfare and visa expenses. Volunteers for the May-Aug. group are encouraged to apply even if they are unable to cover all their travel expenses. For more information and to apply for this program, please contact Luciano Kovacs, North America Regional Secretary, WSCF atwscfna@gmail.com.

Blood drive
One of the lessons we learned from Boston last week is how important it is for communities to have an ample blood supply in case of emergencies. Most towns and cities struggle to have enough blood on reserve for regular use, let alone in times of crisis. There is a blood drive taking place at the YWCA on Friday, May 3, from 11am-5pm in the community room. You can sign up in person at the service desk, or call 1-800-448-3543 to schedule a donation. This is a great way to honor both the victims and also the amazing emergency medical teams in Boston who were able to save all of those not immediately killed by the explosion.

Help the Library be even more responsive to your needs
Your library seeks input from all LTSG students, faculty and patrons through a quick online survey that helps the library staff gauge usage, services, and anticipate future needs. This valuable assessment tool takes less than five minutes to complete, and we request all Wentz patrons, including seminarians on internship, to fill out the online survey. When you take the survey, you are simultaneously entered into the sweepstakes to win/lose Schrödinger's cat. (No need to worry about allergies.) The survey can be found athttp://www.surveymonkey.com/s/FZ8MWQH.

If you encounter any problems with internet access after noon tomorrow in these buildings, please email ithelp@LTSG.edu or call 717-338-3037 and leave a message.

An Evolutionary Theology of Cancer
Dr. Hummel, along with colleague Dr. Steve James, Associate Professor of Biology at Gettysburg College, will be speaking on "Chance, Necessity, Love: An Evolutionary Theology of Cancer" on Apr. 24, at 7:30pm in Valentine Auditorium. What exactly is cancer? And where is God and what is love amidst the disease of cancer? In this presentation Dr. Hummel and Dr. James address these questions. In order to do so, they clarify a number of scientific complexities about the origin and development of cancers. Next, then they offer a variety of theological perspectives for the practical insights they bring to the very existence of this disease. In light of these perspectives, they offer meditations about what cannot and for what can be changed in a world with cancers.

Their presentation will look at the disease of cancer, asking where is God and what is love given the science of this disease. The talk will describe some of the key features of all cancers, look at a variety of theological perspectives for the practical insights they bring to the very existence of this disease, and then conclude with suggestions for both what we cannot do and for what we can do in a world with cancers. Throughout, Dr. Hummel and Dr. James will discuss how cancers may be understood as evolutionary processes linked to the more general process of biological evolution, and therefore address throughout questions linked to that more general process: where is God and what is love within the evolutionary chance and necessity at work in all dimensions of cancer.

Congratulations to Tony Setley, winner of the Seminarians Reaching Out March Madness pool! In addition, Kimberly Belken finished 2nd, while Dr. Vitalis Hoffman significantly out-performed his Illini by finishing 3rd overall. Prizes commensurate to their monumental achievements will soon be provided by the Social Outreach Committee. Thanks to all who participated!

Easter Vigil at St. David’s Lutheran in Hanover
St. David's Lutheran Church (1032 Musselman Road, Hanover) invites the seminary community to an Easter Vigil on Mar. 30, at 7:45pm. The Easter Vigil is an experience that gathers us in total darkness, which is then slowly dispelled by candlelight. In the shadows of nightfall, with the hopeful glow of candles we tell and hear the stories of our faith: Creation, Abraham and Isaac, The Exodus, The Valley of Dry Bones, Jonah, and Daniel in the Fiery Furnace, The Empty Tomb of Jesus. We affirm our baptism into the Christian faith that holds all of these stories together in one piece. We share the meal of Christ’s family and celebrate the gift of new life. For more information, call 717-688-0652.

The winning continent group will decide where the money gets donated to. May the white smoke be ever in your favor!

We'll simply claim tables in the corner and converse. If you want to find out more about the issues, take a look at online articles such as "Pastoral Letters on the Newton Tragedy", "Lutheran church in Ethiopia severs relationship with ELCA", and "Pope Benedict's legacy is one of paradox".

There's been more breaking religion news than usual in the past few days - the pope's retirement, the Ethiopian Lutherans breaking pulpit and altar fellowship with the ELCA and the Church of Sweden, and a Connecticut LC-MS pastor apologizing for participating in prayer for Newtown victims.
