What to include in the composter:
“Green” materials
*Fresh leaves, plant cuttings and weeds
*Grass clippings
*Fruit and vegetable peels and other fruit wastes
*Coffee grounds and tea bags
“Brown” materials
*Dead weeds and dry leaves
*Clipped brush
*Wood ash
*Egg shells
*Sawdust
*Wood chips
*Straw
What NOT to include in the composter:
- Meat, fish, poultry, bones, dairy products
- Foods containing animal fats, human/pet feces
- Cheese, salad dressing, oils and other fats (can cause odors and attract animals)
- Plant material with visible signs of disease or insect infestation
- Weeds that can easily grow from root or stem cuttings
