The Gettysburg Children’s Choir and High School Vocal Ensemble will present Sing Into Spring at the Lutheran Theological Seminary Chapel as part of the Music! Gettysburg concert series. This free concert will begin at 4:00 pm on Sunday, April 27th and will feature diverse choral works ranging from classics to gospel. The Gettysburg Children’s Choir is led by Artistic Director Dr. Brent Talbot and is accompanied by Jamie Buxton.
The Gettysburg Children's Choir is an auditioned community group of singers in grades 3 through 12. Singers in the group represent Bermudian Springs, Fairfield , Gettysburg, Littlestown, and Upper Adams School Districts, as well as Montessori of Gettysburg, VIDA Charter School, Delone and St. Joseph’s. The Choir is in its fifteenth season. The select High School Vocal Ensemble for students in grades 9 – 12 is in its second season. In addition to its own concerts, the Choir’s performances have included the opening of the Majestic Theater, Carmina Burnana with the Schola Cantorum and the Gettysburg Chamber Orchestra in the Music! Gettysburg concert series, and the community Martin Luther King Celebration. Three Choir members were selected to perform with the ACDA Eastern Division Junior and Senior High Honor Choirs in Baltimore in February.
The Choir is supported in part by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency; by the Adams County Arts Council’s STAR Grant Program, which is funded by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, the Adams County Commissioners, the Borough of Gettysburg, and the Robert C. Dr. Talbot, artistic director, holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Music Education from the University of Rochester Eastman School of Music and a Bachelor of Music Education from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana. He was the founding director of the Eastman Young Children’s Chorus, Director of the Eastman New Horizons Chorus, and founding director of the Electronic Music Studio at the Eastman Community School of Music in Rochester, NY. He is assistant professor of music education at the Sunderman Conservatory of Music at Gettysburg College.
Jamie Buxton is accompanist for the Gettysburg Children’s Choir. She is adjunct accompanist for the Sunderman Conservatory, serving the department for auditions, recitals, and ensemble groups. She is also the pianist for the Hanover- based adult choir, Belle Voix.
