New Common Ground Festival comes to Seminary Ridge

The Common Ground on Seminary Ridge launch event at the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2012, from 12:00pm until 11:00pm.

While teaching and exploring the artistic and cultural traditions of the Civil War era, Common Ground on Seminary Ridge will seek to discover the ongoing ramifications of slavery and war in present day society.  Walt Michael, Founder and Executive Director, Common Ground on the Hill.

Common Ground on Seminary Ridge will consist of a keynote address, classes in lecture, art and Civil War era secular and religious music, an afternoon concert in conjunction with Music Gettysburg!, Songs & Stories of a Civil War Hospital at Christ Lutheran Church, and will conclude with a Civil War period dance.

This one-day launch event will grow into an annual event.  In 2013, celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, Common Ground on Seminary Ridge will be a two-day event.  In 2014, Common Ground on Seminary Ridge will become a week-long event, built along the model of Common Ground on the Hill's Traditions Weeks, held at McDaniel College, in Westminster, Md.
