Letter for New Students

Welcome New Students!

Congratulations on being accepted as a student at Gettysburg Seminary! We are delighted you have chosen to join the Gettysburg Seminary community in study and formation for ministry. You will find everything you need to register for the next term on our web site. Most materials are in multiple formats, so you should have no problem accessing them.

We are asking you to register in advance of arriving on campus so that we have some preliminary information about course enrollments. You will be assigned an advisor at the start of the term and have a chance to meet with your advisor during the early days of the term. You may drop and add classes during the first two weeks of classes for fall or spring, and during the first day of class for J-term.

A few words about the registration materials may be helpful:
  • The class grid lays out the classes throughout the days of the week and can be an easy way to see what your week will look like
  • The registration form is in Excel format and in pdf format. You may download the Excel format form, save it to your own computer, fill it out, and email it to me as an attachment. Or you may print it out and mail it to me. Don't worry about the advisor's signature for now.
  • The preliminary listing of courses to be offered in future terms is for planning purposes; finalized course listings will be published approximately six weeks before the opening of registration for that term.
  • Pre-session Greek registration form. All students who register for 1.210 Introduction to New Testament Greek in a Fall term are required to attend the first two weeks of class during late August. This form asks for some information relating to housing and meals during those two weeks.

Courses are listed in numerical order. When a course has a "lab," the course meets as a whole at the indicated times and as a small group ("lab") at the indicated times. Please rank your choices of labs; I will try to honor your choices, but that may not be possible in all cases.

Students may choose for each course whether to receive a letter grade or a pass/fail grade. Please indicate your choice on your registration form beside each course. If you do not indicate a choice, the default choice is always Pass/Fail. You may change your mind about your grade choice during the drop/add period for the term.

A normal course load for a student's fall or spring semester is 13.5 credits. If you take over 16 credits, you will need the Dean's approval. Consult the course descriptions for prerequisites of individual courses. While there is no prescribed sequence of courses, the catalog lays out a sample course sequence that may be helpful in making some choices.

New students will need to be at pre-session orientation on the Tuesday immediately before the Fall semester begins.

We look forward to having you on campus! Please contact me if you have any questions.
