Schmucker House was completed in 1833 and occupied by the Seminary's first president and faculty member, Samuel Simon Schmucker. Throughout the Battle of Gettysburg (1863) the house was in the midst of the fighting; as the center of the Confederate line of defense it sustained damage from Union Artillery stationed on Cemetery Ridge and from the Confederate defenders. Today the house accommodates faculty offices, a conference room and a formal meeting parlor.
