Features of the Rings, in two styles,
(Curriculum Traditional)
and (Signet Ring).
The signet ring (pictured to the right) has the seminary seal on its top. The
Curriculum ring may be described as follows:
On the top there can be “encrusted” (optional) three different
Christian symbols, the “Chi Rho”, a Latin Cross, or the Ichthys
fish. The stone is surrounded by a sentence that Martin Luther frequently used, “DOMINI
SUMUS”. Luther reflected on the two meanings this can have, according
to the Latin grammar. It can mean a) “We are Lords”, i.e. we are
free, liberated, because b) “We are the Lord’s”, i.e. we
belong to the Lord. The two little crosses in the “DOMINI SUMUS” resemble
the crosses in the LTSG seal (see also the pulpit in the chapel). The “DOMINI
SUMUS” will be surrounded by a rope that symbolizes, that we are bound
together (with Christ, with God’s people near and far, with our class,
and with all classes in past and future).
On the one side of the ring there is the LTSG seal, which depicts Law and Gospel;
further, the name of the degree you have earned or will earn (MDIV, MAMS, MAR,
STM, BD) as well as oak leaves, which symbolize not only the predominant tree
on campus, but also our location in Penn-sylvania, Penn’s Woodland.
