WORSHIP
is the central focus of chaplaincy services. It is at worship that
we are regularly nourished as God's people; to worship that we
bring occasions for rejoicing and intercession; from worship
that we draw strength to speak of God and act as God's children.
Daily Chapel Services (Most weeks)

Worship weaves
us together
The seminary's communal worship life is lively and diverse, weaving
together the gifts of the community's members with resources from
around the world. A typical week includes a service of Holy Communion
and several preaching services, as well as services of prayer and
praise. Services of healing, corporate confession and forgiveness,
and affirmation of baptism are also offered regularly.
The services as planned and led by faculty, staff and students.
Mark Oldenburg, as Dean of the Chapel, provides guidance and resources,
and works to assure stability and diversity. He puts together the
schedule of leaders and lessons, and serves as a resource for planning.
The Director of Music, Stephen Folkemer, undergirds the community's
song, oversees three choirs and several instrumental groups, and
generally makes available his gifts as organist and composer. Each
year two students serve as sacristans, helping with planning and
serving as an altar guild.
Corporate worship at the seminary helps to assure that we do not
simply talk about God, but listen and speak to God as well.
Evening worship
for families
Because many members of the seminary community are not on campus
during the day, about once a month the weekly Eucharist is celebrated
in the evening. For the first semester those dates are listed in
the current worship schedule.
Worship by the family at home is an important and often overlooked
part of our devotional life. A number of books are available on this
subject from the dean of the chapel's library. Also helpful
are the daily devotional booklets Word in Season and The Home Altar,
available
quarterly in
the chapel narthex. The campus pastor has free copies of Growing
in Grace, a devotional guide for families with young children.
