The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg (Seminary) has a special group plan with the YWCA of Gettysburg & Adams County (YWCA).   This group plan is part of the 99-year lease dated July 19, 1979 between the Seminary and the YWCA.   The YWCA, which is located on the Seminary grounds, has a wonderful facility available to members of the Seminary Community.  This facility includes a gymnasium, weight/fitness room, Olympic-size swimming pool, spacious 12-person whirlpool and other facilities.  Also included is the YWCA West facility.

The Seminary will provide Recreation Passes for all faculty, staff and students for a $10 co-pay (payable to the Seminary) for each Recreation Pass.  All applications and information can be obtained from the Business Office.  These applications are then taken to the YWCA service desk to obtain a recreation pass.  Additional passes will be available for spouses and children at special rates through the YWCA Service Desk with a credit card or a check made payable to the YWCA of Gettysburg.  Family membership is available for spouse and children and costs the difference between the special family price and the amount already paid by the Seminary on the individual student.   Applications for family membership must be made at the time the student, staff or faculty member makes application.  For example, to upgrade from an individual at $140 to a family at $253, an additional $113 would be required.  All passes will be good until August 31, 2006 (regardless of when they are purchased) and will be renewable at that time.  The “Y” and the seminary ask all interested students/faculty/staff to apply for their passes in September for the 2005-06 academic year.  For those beginning mid-year we ask that passes be applied for within the first month of the Spring Semester.

In situations where more than one covered person (student, staff, faculty) are included in the seminary family, the family rate will be applicable.  For example, if two staff persons are married, the seminary will be responsible for the family rate of $253 rather than two individual rates of $140 each.  Also, included would be a student in the same family as a staff person.

The Seminary Family members are entitled to full YWCA member and recreation pass privileges and responsibilities including:

• all the benefits of a YWCA membership including the opportunity to utilize YWCA child care programs
• use of either facility, which would include gymnasium, pool, weight and fitness room, whirlpool during open hours
• discounts on most classes and programs including some child care
• opportunity to pre-register for classes and programs
• the right to bring guests to the facility

Recreation pass holders can participate in a wide variety of scheduled and unscheduled activities in the gymnasium.   The Seminary can schedule use of the gymnasium for special events or special use.   The scheduling must be approved by an official body of the Seminary such as the Student Association, the Student Faculty Relations committee or from an administrative office (such as the admissions office for use during prospective student weekend).   The scheduling must be reserved with the front desk of the YWCA just like any other scheduling.

            YWCA INFORMATION

SIGN-IN - All participants must sign-in at the Service Desk when using the YWCA.

SEMINARY RECREATION PASS CARDS – Cards must be presented at the Service Desk when using the YWCA.

SCHEDULES  - The YWCA reserves the right to make changes in the schedule as need arises.  Changes are printed in the YWCA Column of the Gettysburg Times and posted in the building.  Additional copies of the OPEN TIME schedule for the gym, pool, and weight/fitness rooms are available at the Service Desk.

CLOSINGS - The YWCA closes promptly at scheduled hours.  Closings due to inclement weather or other emergencies will be announced on WGET (1320 AM).  As a rule, the YWCA will not close or cancel unless conditions are very hazardous.

LOCKERS - Recreation pass holders may bring their own padlock to secure belongings.  Valuables should be left at the Service Desk.  Small lockers are available for annual rental.

GUESTS - Guests must be accompanied by a YWCA Member/Associate Recreation Pass member, except when using coupons or when group arrangements are made in advance.  Guests are granted three visits to become acquainted with the YWCA.  After three visits, a Rec Pass is required to use the facilities.  Any exceptions must be approved by the Executive Director. Each Recreation Pass member receives several complimentary guest passes to use when friends and family visit and want to use the facilities along with the member.
