 Small Membership Congregations
June 4-6, 2008
Presented by the National Association of Lutheran Interim Pastors (NALIP)

The vast majority of congregations in Protestant denominations would be classified as “small membership.” Membership of these congregations is under 250 and weekly worship attendance averages less than one hundred. However, most Protestant Christians are studying, worshipping, and sharing together in larger membership congregations. How do pastors give leadership to these many small congregations with declining membership?
Pastoral leadership in these congregations requires special skills usually not provided in basic seminary training. This special three-day seminar is provided to help leaders flourish in their ministry in the context of the smaller congregation. Key skills are shared that will enable these pastoral leaders to work through the turbulent times that smaller congregations face.
Regularly called permanent pastors or intentional interim pastors serving during a time of transition will benefit from a process of skill and ability identification, examination, and development that will lead to improved self-care and healthy congregation dynamics.
