John 14:15-21

1.      What is the context in which this passage stands?

a.       How does that context impact an understanding of this text?

2.      Grammatically, what is the use of the subjunctive construction in v. 15?

a.       Theologically, what is being conveyed through that grammatical construction?

3.      What is the significance that the Greek word parakletos could be translated as “the one who

a.       Advises?

b.      Counsels?

c.       Consoles?

d.      Advocates?

e.       Exhorts?

f.        Comforts?

g.       Encourages?

h.       Makes appeals?

i.         Helps?

4.      What is the significance of Jesus saying that God will give them “another” (allon) parakletos?

5.      How does the title “Spirit of truth” recall 14:6?

6.      Why can’t the world receive or know the Spirit of truth?
