1. What is the literary context of this passage, and how does that context impact a reading of this passage?

2. How does the reference to Jesus’ location on a geographic boundary also function as a reference to theological and sociological boundaries?

3. What is the basic form of a miracle story? How does this story
a. Conform to that form?

b. Deviate/expand on that form?

4. In the 1st century world how would the ten lepers have been viewed
a. Medically?

b. Socially?

c. Theologically?

5. How does the reference to the lepers recall such prior passages as 4:27; 5:12-14; 7:22?

6. Why does Jesus tell the lepers to go show themselves to the priests?

a. What was the medical/theological role of priests vis-à-vis lepers?

7. What is the difference between being healed and being made clean? How is that difference at work in vv. 14,15,17,19?

8. Why are the 9 lepers berated by Jesus when they are doing exactly what Jesus told them to do?
